A Look at the Rwandan Genocide Essay - 1014 Words

Thousands of people died. The only reason is because they were a different political party. There are terrible economies. People are suffering and have very little hope. Genocide is the only reason. Everything could have been prevented if genocide didn’t exist. The world basically ignored the genocide and pretended like it never happened because they didn’t want to spend the money. Thousands of people could still be alive if the world stepped up at helped the victims of this horrible crime. Rwanda used to be a peaceful country until the Civil war started. Belgium then took over Rwanda and put the Tutsis in charge of the government because they had more European characteristics like the Belgium population (Anderson 1). This upset the†¦show more content†¦After the genocide ended almost 70% of the Rwandan population was killed. Before the genocide, Rwanda consisted of 85% Hutus and only 15% Tutsis (Anderson 1). This goes to show that Hutus were killed as well as Tutsis. Also more Hutus didn’t support the rebellion than did because if they different follow Hutu Leaders’ command, they were killed. In a sense the Rwandan genocide is similar to the Holocaust because most Germans didn’t support the Holocaust just like most Hutus didn’t support the mass killing of the Tutsis. Because of the dramatic transformation in population, there were no workers and no farmland. This made everything problematical. There was very little food, so people died because of that during and after the genocide, but that was just an underlying cause in the whole genocide. The main reason that people were killed was because the Hutus massacred the Tutsis (Untied Human Rights Council, 1). The second reason the Rwandan conflict is a genocide is because the Hutus wiped out the Tutsis. According to the Untied Human Rights Council, â€Å"On April 6, 1994, a plane carrying President Habyarimana, a Hutu, was shot down. Violence began almost immedi ately after that.† The Hutus wanted a legitimate reason to started the mass killing on the Tutsis. The assassination of the president was the ideal opportunity.
